The San Bernardino native, now Houston-based artist GetItRogers, released his directorial debut in the music video to his February single, Broke Down. Broke Down introduced a style of music coined as “Godly Funk,” fusing a soulful pop with a focus on positive/intentional messaging.
His current sound is a product of his most recent EP, New Season. Rogers’ “Godly funk” shines through in his cinematic “Broke Down” video, shot and co-directed by Ethan Milner, a long-time collaborator. Broke Down, though simple and direct, captures deep emotions. Conveyed in the moments where the video cuts to a woman dancing alone in all black, inducing the feeling of rebirth.
In 2022 GetItRogers showed off his diverse talents as a dancer in a series of Tobe Nwigwe’s music videos and Hulu live stream performance. During that time of opportunity, he maintained dedicating time to creating his own music. While Rogers pushed himself in his career, he was also balancing living with his mom being very sick and her passing in late 2022 as he finished filming Broke Down. Now, as a short time has passed, the bad days come and go but GetItRogers holds onto his purpose.
“Learning how to grow and adjust is vital and the center point of what this song represents, flourishing in the midst of adversity.”
